The biggest question my clients ask me is “what the heck should I wear?!” I get it. Outfits are hard! If you’ve wondered what to wear to your engagement session, here are some simple guidelines to follow. Remember these are just guidelines, not rules. Your session is just that, yours!
Feeling comfortable in your outfit is key to a successful engagement session. I love to give my clients a variety of photos, and this means that I’ll ask you to do a variety of poses.
Do Nots: Avoid restrictive, uncomfortable clothing as it will limit the poses and prompts we can use.
I always suggest neutral colors when it comes to clothing. Let me be straightforward here: Neutral isn’t only referring to shades of white and tan. You can find a neutral shade of almost any color. Play with color! Explore mustard yellow, army green, navy blue, etc.
Do Nots: Please avoid neon colors. Couples should avoid dressing in all the same color (unless you have a very specific look you are going for – let’s talk about it!). Variety helps make your images interesting.
Accessories can be a fun way to add a little something to your portraits and show your personal style. Hats, jewelry, and scarves are a fun addition.
Do Nots: Don’t go overboard! A good rule to follow is to choose only one large accessory. We want the focus to be on YOU.
When selecting your outfits, consider mixing textures and colors to add variety and visual interest to your images.
Do Nots: Don’t put everyone in a different pattern. Patterns can clash and cause your photos to look messy. For the perfect look, try a mix of patterns and solids.
The most important tip of them all? You should wear something that makes you FEEL good!! Find an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks so your confidence can shine through.
